SnowGlobe Music Festival 2012 Recap

Day One

BEATS ANTIQUE snowglobe day 1-008 We started our journey from Fresno at around 8 o’clock in the morning and made the journey up to South Lake Tahoe. We were expecting snow but got lucky, and had clear skies all the way there. Once we got there, we checked into our cabin in the Tahoe Keys, everyone got ready, and right away we headed out to the venue. Thankfully there were no lines and everyone was excited! Right when our whole group got in, we headed to the Sierra Tent to catch the end of Steffi Graf’s and to catch Baauer’s set. Baauer had an awesome set that really set the tempo for the whole night. When Baauer was finished we stayed for a few minutes of Clockwork’s set then we headed out to catch Beats Antique on the Main Stage. At this point it started really snowing; this added to the surreal awesomeness of Beats Antique’s set. I had never seen Beats Antique live but had only heard good things; they did not disappoint. They played every song that I wanted them to play and so much more. After Beats Antique we headed right back to the Sierra Tent to catch the rest of Minnesota who was in the middle of a filthy set. He played his entire new Altered States EP, including Yoga Pants and Float Featuring Zion I. Next we headed back to the Main Stage to catch the rest of Wiz Khalifa who was killing it playing his entire new track from his new album O.N.I.F.C. including songs such as Work Hard, Play Hard and It’s Nothin feat. 2 Chainz. At the end of the show we headed out to our shuttle and decided we were all too tired from traveling all day to go out. So, of course, we then ended up heading back to the cabin where we partied all night, had some drinks and relaxed in preparation for the next night!

Day Two

snowglobe day 2-015

Day two we all woke up around 10:00am with mimosas and good vibes, ate some breakfast, and played in the snow for a little. It was blue skies all day and we were all getting very excited! Our shuttle picked us up at 4:00pm and we were off, we hit a little bit of traffic on the way but none the less we still made it to see the second half of Cherub’s set on the Techbeats Stage. After that, we grabbed a beer then headed to the Main Stage for MiMOSA. We got there a little bit early so we got a great spot in the crowd. MiMOSA had one of my favorite sets of the weekend; he completely reinvented himself, dropping some of the dirtiest Dub and Trap I had ever heard. When MiMOSA finished we went and grabbed some more beer to get ready to see Madeon on the Main Stage, who also had a sick set. Every time I see Madeon I am more impressed then the last, his transitions are just perfect and he does a great job reading a crowd. After Madeon finished on the main stage we headed to the Techbeats Stage to catch Break Science, who killed it. Then, we headed to the Main Stage to catch the one and only Deadmau5 who played his entire new album as well as all of the classic Deadmau5 tracks. At the end of his set we all piled back onto the shuttle to head to the official SnowGlobe After Party at Mountblu, to see UZ, Griz and Flosstradamus. We got in relatively fast and grabbed a few tables; the mysterious UZ was up first; coming on stage with his full mask on, he dropped a massive set with some thugged out Trap and had the whole place going bonkers. Next up was Griz who never disappoints he even had Gramatik as a surprise guest to play their Grizmatik track Digital Liberation Is Mad Freedom, and played just an all around amazing set. Next up was Trap super stars Flosstradamus, who shook the whole venue with their massive bass. They ended up playing two encores and called out the venue for trying to turn down their sound. The after party ended around 4:00am so we grabbed a few cabs and headed back to the cabin for some much needed rest!

Day Three

On New Year’s Eve we all got up a little late, mostly because of the time we ended up getting home the night before, and we also had trouble getting on our shuttle. We ended up getting into the venue at around 7:40pm just in time to catch Zion I, but ended up not being able to get into the Techbeats Tent because it was so packed. We ended up heading to the Sierra Tent to catch some of BoomBox and Nobody Beats The Drum, but they ended up switching set times or something so we were only able to see BoomBox. Regardless, it was completely ok because they dropped some filthy Disco that our group (of 30 people!) was definitely feeling. We needed some drinks so we headed out to the VIP lounge and grabbed some, where we ended up seeing part of POLICA’s set on the Main Stage. Their singer has an incredible voice. Then we headed back to the Sierra Tent to catch Gramatik; they played some new remixes, including a sick one of Pretty Lights track Still Night and many other ones. They also played their entire EP #Digitalfreedom and some of their classics such as Make You Better, Break Loose and Friday. After Gramatik we headed to the Main Stage to see Chromeo for the countdown. Chromeo did a great job at closing out the festival with the countdown and a 10 minute fireworks show at midnight. For the first dance of the New Year, they played an awesome Electro Funk track that I still can’t figure out the name of… then followed it up with their huge track Night By Night, and followed that up with Tenderoni. They blew me away with their entire set! My colleagues and I had never heard funk like that before. I can’t wait till next year’s SnowGlobe Music Festival.

Our hearts go out to the Family and Friends of Alyssa Byrne.
